This year Safe Haven recognized four outstanding individuals who made outstanding contributions to the agency's mission. State Representative John Siptroth received the Vision of Hope Award, Warden Craig Lowe received the Vision of Justice Award, Doris Mooney received the Vision of Restoration Award, and Deborah Bailey received the Vision of Advocacy Award. Harold Dow, Emmy Award Winning CBS News Correspondent of 48 Hours Mystery, and Kathy Starks Dow, newspaper reporter and author of the children’s book Low Down Dirty Words donated their time to be the Masters of Ceremonies for the evening. The event was held at the River View Inn and featured dinner, live entertainment, and a cash bar.
  • Book Reading by Amy Ferris - On September 23rd, the BlueStone Gallery (104 W. Ann St) hosted a book reading by Amy Ferris. All donations and book sales from the event were given to Safe Haven. Victims Awareness 5K Walk/Run

Gift of Giving

During the holiday season, Safe Haven works with other community organizations to provide gifts for children in need. We pair donated handmade ornaments with gift requests, then use them to decorate holiday trees located at the Safe Haven office and at local businesses. Members of the community that wish to help stop by, pick an ornament, and return with the unwrapped gift. This activity brings together many people and organizations, from those who donate ornaments and gifts to those that receive them. Safe Haven would like to thank everyone that participated this year, including all the local businesses that hosted a giving tree.

Holiday Caroling

Each year Safe Haven goes holiday caroling throughout the business district of Milford. Local stores invite the cheery carolers inside to sing for their patrons. Everyone in the community or beyond is welcome to join us!

RYOT (Rallying Youth Organizers Together) Against Rape and All Forms of Abuse presents sociodramas throughout the year on a variety of topics, such as gay bashing, unhealthy dating relationships, and cyberbullying. Sociodrama is facilitated educational theater which utilizes dramatization of social issues and necessitates audience participation. The impact of Sociodrama is far-reaching, breaking down walls of communication and misunderstanding that often come with the handling of intense, emotional issues such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, diversity and rape. Audience members are challenged to become part of each Sociodrama by asking straight-talking questions to the actors (who remain in character during this process) and sharing their honest opinions about the situation that is being acted out.
