Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Opportunities are open to men and women. Domestic abuse and sexual assault training is mandated for all volunteers and employees who are working in direct contact with clients. This 60-hour training is offered through Safe Haven twice a year at no cost to the trainees. Also, every now and then we gather our volunteers together for a T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) gathering. Those meetings may have a short training presentation from one of our departments or be a theme night to offer continued education and support to our volunteers.
Fundraising Assistant
30% of our annual budget comes from fundraising events and individual donations. Safe Haven runs several events throughout the year. For more information about our events, please visit the Safe Haven Events page.
Office Assistant
Office assistants answer telephones, aid with filing tasks, organize clothing donations or work on special projects as needed.
Hotline
Safe Haven maintains a 24-hour, 7-day a week hotline for anyone in crisis. Nightly hotline coverage is provided by certified crisis intervention volunteers.
Educational Assistant
Learn to facilitate or co-facilitate one of our educational outreach programs. Issues addressed include safe touch, anger management, sex-role stereotype, dating violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, healthy relationships, etc. Additional training will be provided to interested certified volunteers.
Support Groups
Co-facilitate one of Safe Haven’s scheduled support groups. These are usually 8-10 week sessions dealing with issues of sexual assault and domestic violence through self-empowerment. Additional training is needed and will be provided to interested certified volunteers.
Volunteer Training
All volunteers involved in direct contact with clients are required to complete 60-hours of mandated crisis training on sexual assault and domestic violence. Classes are scheduled twice a year, in the spring and fall. Also needed are individuals to facilitate future training sessions. Training and materials are provided.
Justice System Advocate
Provide accompaniment to court when necessary to serve as a support system for clients in crisis. Additional training is needed and provided.
Hospitality
Work with the Volunteer Hotline Coordinator to help coordinate food and beverages, decorations, etc. for events sponsored by Safe Haven.
Brochure Distribution
Individuals choose 4-6 sites in which to place agency literature for Safe Haven. Follow-up is required every 1-2 months afterward.
Shopping and Web Surfing
Your shopping and web surfing can also support us!
GoodSearch/GoodShop
To use either GoodSearch or GoodShop, you can click the buttons above. If the charity is not already specified, type “Safe Haven of Pike County” under “Who do you GoodSearch/GoodShop for?” Then, click the “Verify” button, and you’re ready to go! Search or shop, and every search or purchase benefits Safe Haven!
GoodSearch is an internet search engine that donates 1¢ per search, no purchase necessary! 1¢ may not sound like a lot, but it all adds up! Many people use search engines several times a day, so the more people that use it, the more Safe Haven gets! GoodShop is a website where, by clicking on many popular online merchant links, if a purchase is then made, a certain % of the total is donated to Safe Haven. The prices of the items are the same as when GoodShop is not used, but the difference is that Safe Haven now gets part of it! The specific percentage donated is determined by each company and specified on the GoodShop site.

Making a difference in the lives of others by reaching out, offering a helping hand… a circle of heart-felt support… the key to unlock self-healing and the power of change… the mystery of a beautiful butterfly once hidden but now gloriously emerging for every eye to see. This is the symbolism behind the design of this one-of-a-kind unique piece of art. The Swarovski jeweled pin reflects the goals of Safe Haven: to restore dignity to individuals dealing with issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse through crisis intervention, supportive counseling, a 24-hour hotline, prevention education and community outreach. These Metamorphosis pins were specially designed by Liztech Jewelry for Safe Haven. They are $50 each and can be purchased at the Safe Haven office or here on our website. Please note that there is a $4 surcharge for each pin ordered through the website to cover Paypal fees and shipping charges. |

Paint Pike Purple Necklace
You can order your Paint Pike Purple necklace right here! We have two great kinds to choose from, both featuring the 2008 Paint Pike Purple logo originally painted by Milford artist Joann Wells Greenbaum. Bill Cochran, owner of Art by the Lake, custom-makes the necklaces for Safe Haven by using tools and techniques that he invented. They can be ordered at the Safe Haven offices or here on our website.
The first type of necklace, pictured above, features a double-sided print. The pendant is approximately 1” square and is made with a zinc frame, two glass panels, and lead-free solder. The black leather cord is 16 inches long with silver colored clasps. These one-of-a-kind pieces are $20 each. Please note that there is a $3.00 surcharge for each necklace ordered through the website to cover Paypal fees and shipping charges.
The second type of necklace, which is part of Art by the Lake's Aurora Collection, has a clear beveled aurora poly-coating. The pendant measures approximately 1.125" (H) x 0.75" (W) and is handmade with stainless steel. It comes with an 18" metal silver-colored necklace. This design captures ambient light and is also a great addition to any jewelry collection. These necklaces are $25 each. Please note that there is a $3.00 surcharge for each necklace ordered through the website to cover Paypal fees and shipping charges.
